How to Figure Out What You Want in Your Next Home

Ready to buy a house, but you don’t know what you want?

My advice is to first meet with your lender, bank or financial advisor and let’s see where your price point is.

Do you know how much you want to spend on your next home? Are you already pre-approved and wondering what the next steps are?

Now that you’ve handled step number one, we can work together to figure out what you’re actually looking for in a home!

Maybe you know your budget, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you need and roughly what size house you’re looking for, but you don’t know what else you want beyond a place to sleep.

You’re probably thinking this will be easy. All you care about is having 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, right?

But there’s more to finding your next home than the number of bedrooms and bathrooms.

My advice at this stage is let’s look at 6-8 listings online that span from the lowest point to the highest point of your budget and narrow down what you do and don’t like about each house. Then, from those 6-8 homes, we’ll narrow it down to about 4 and schedule tours for all of them.

As your Realtor, I want you to get inside these homes and see how they truly look in person and, more importantly, how each home feels to you.

Your next home is a personal choice. It’s not just numbers. The number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, number of stories or number of zeroes in the price.

It’s whether or not you can picture yourself drinking a cup of coffee on the front porch in the mornings. It’s tucking your kids in at night and reading them a story. It’s whether the home office offers a good view to stare out of while you’re answering your 57th email of the day.

It can be stressful finding the perfect home to live in, whether it’s your starter home for the next 5-7 years or the home you’ll live in for the next 50 years and watch the next two generations of kids run through the halls.

My job, my goal and my dream is to help you through this process and make it as seamless as possible, so all you have to worry about is picking out paint colors, deciding which wall is best for your TV and figuring out which clear organizers will fit best in your pantry.

I’m not just helping the next person buy a house. I want to make sure you find the right house and pay the right price for your home.

I’m not trying to get my buyers into a house as quickly as possible. I’m trying to get my friends, family and neighbors into a home where they feel safe and secure, both physically and financially.
